On 26 October, the Cervino Ski Paradise lifts open: eleven months of skiing and fun. An endless season!
The first snow at altitude arrived in mid-September, knocking on the door of a new ski season that will last 11 months in the Cervino Ski Paradise area. The lifts in Breuil-Cervinia will open on Saturday 26 October 2024 and close on 7 September 2025.
For the second year in a row, there will be no more interruptions between winter and summer, the endless season will provide extended fun for skiers and snowboarders who enjoy holidays in the snow, trips and hikes for mountaineers, and high-altitude experiences for pedestrians who want to explore Zermatt or the Little Matterhorn via the innovative Matterhorn Alpine Crossing.
Between Breuil-Cervinia, Valtournenche and Zermatt - connected by skis - 350 kilometres of slopes and pure adrenaline, for one of the world's largest ski areas, which continues to renew itself. Skiers this year will find a pleasant novelty at the foot of the iconic pyramid, the symbol of mountaineering. As soon as there are ideal snow conditions, the new Goillet chairlift will be inaugurated, replaced in the summer by a high-tech system.
The 6-seater chairlift, with automatic coupling, will provide a fast connection between Breuil-Cervinia and the nearby Valtournenche, as well as access to the wonderful slopes upstream of the dam of the same name. The 69 seats have heated backrests, individual footrests and transparent protective domes for colder days. It will take only five minutes (half the time compared to the past) to transport skiers and snowboarders from 2,692 metres to 3,093 metres, with a maximum capacity of 2,400 passengers per hour.
The new lift is also equipped with the EcoDrive system, aimed at improving efficiency and environmental impact. In fact, it allows the speed to be automatically adjusted according to the number of skiers waiting, achieving energy savings of up to 20% with a reduction of just one metre per second. In addition, DirectDrive reduces noise and the amount of lubricants used while increasing efficiency and safety.
The 20% reduction on ski pass rates for the under-24s - provided for at regional level, as well as the 30% discount applied to the under-16s - will also be applied to the entire Cervino Ski Paradise ski area, which in addition to Breuil-Cervinia and Valtournenche also includes Torgnon and Chamois, whose openings are already scheduled for late November and early December.
Cervino Ski Paradise, in addition to preparing for the new season, has also been working for months on the new edition of the Snowboard Cross World Cup, an event that launches the resort's winter and which is organised in synergy between the Cervino Turismo Consortium, Cervino Spa and the municipality of Valtournenche. This year at the foot of the Gran Becca the inaugural stage of the international circuit with a women's and a men's race on Saturday 14 December. The best riders in the world will arrive in Valtournenche much earlier, for the official training and qualifying sessions on Friday. Then the big show, with jumps, parabolics, overtaking and measuring passes.
