The Zermatt ski lifts announce the temporary closure of the summer skiing activity at Plateau Rosa
The strong movements of the glacier have an impact on the activity of the crevasses.
The problems relating to the current weather situation, with lack of snow and high temperatures even at high altitudes, affect the technical maintenance of the ski lifts and the preparation of the slopes, operations that become increasingly demanding, making it impossible for the moment to guaranteed the usual standards. The decision takes into account the high safety guarantees that Zermatt Bergbahnen (Zermatt Lifts) guarantees its guests and ski teams. This is a temporary interruption of the summer skiing activity, during which, however, the maintenance work on the slopes and ski lifts will continue. The training tracks will also be prepared so that they can be reused at any time.
The slope for the "Gran Becca" Ski World Cup, on which two men's downhill races will take place on 29 and 30 October 2022 and two women's downhill races on 5 and 6 November 2022, is already ready for half of stretch that runs in Swiss territory.
Work will then continue on the rest of the Swiss course and subsequently on the Italian one, so that the "Gran Becca" is ready for the races as early as the beginning of October 2022.
