New Goillet Chairlift: Innovation and Sustainability for Winter 2024-2025
Winter 2024-25 will bring an exciting development for ski enthusiasts at Cervino Ski Paradise. The historic Goillet chairlift will be replaced by a state-of-the-art six-seat chairlift, featuring automatic coupling and the revolutionary EcoDrive system. This new infrastructure represents a significant advancement in terms of efficiency, sustainability, and passenger comfort.
Fast Connection and Increased Transport Capacity
The new chairlift will provide a swift and smooth connection between the ski areas of Cervino Ski Paradise and the Valtournenche ski domain. The six-seat vehicles will be automatically attached to the load-carrying and driving cable, which is looped and driven by a powerful motor located at the valley station. Thanks to this advanced technology, the travel time will be drastically reduced from the current 11 minutes to just 5 minutes. This improvement not only optimizes transportation but also makes the skiing experience much more convenient and quick.
Moreover, the new chairlift features a substantial increase in transport capacity. The hourly capacity will rise from 1600 passengers per hour (p/h) with the current chairlift to 2400 p/h with the new one. This increase allows for a more efficient management of skier flow, reducing waiting times and enhancing the overall experience for users.
Technological Innovation with EcoDrive and DirectDrive
One of the most innovative features of the new chairlift is the integration of the EcoDrive system, developed by the South Tyrolean company Leitner, part of the international HTI group. This system automatically adjusts the speed of the chairlift based on the number of skiers waiting. When the line is short, the speed can be reduced, allowing for significant energy savings. Specifically, reducing the speed by just one meter per second can generate a 20% energy saving.
Additionally, the chairlift will be equipped with the DirectDrive traction system, which represents a significant technological advancement. DirectDrive provides:
- Noise Reduction: The absence of a gearbox and gears greatly reduces the noise produced by the lift.
- Efficiency Improvement: The new motors are much more efficient in terms of energy consumption.
- Increased Safety: The lack of mechanical parts that can break and cause lift stoppages improves safety.
- Green Aspect: Eliminating large quantities of lubricants reduces environmental impact and resource consumption.
Comfort and Safety First
In addition to energy efficiency, the new chairlift is designed to offer maximum comfort to passengers. The seats and backs are of the “comfort” model, with heated backs, ensuring ergonomic seating and optimal comfort even on the coldest winter days. The seats are equipped with individual footrests for each skier, thus enhancing safety, especially for younger passengers. The chairlift will also feature a transparent canopy that will protect passengers from the elements, ensuring a pleasant journey even in adverse weather conditions
Structure of the Facility
The new chairlift facility includes two main stations:
- Valley Motor-Tensioning Station: Located at the lower altitude, this station features suspended drive and a high-type complete covering. It is connected to the storage area via a dedicated channel, where the vehicles will be stored at the end of the day. This storage area, built at the valley station, ensures vehicle protection and facilitates their maintenance.
- Mountain Return Station: Located at the higher altitude, this station also features a high-type complete covering and is designed to ensure maximum safety and stability of the lift.
A Sustainable Future for the Alps
With the new Goillet chairlift, Cervino Ski Paradise is at the forefront of technological innovation in the ski lift sector. The combination of cutting-edge technologies such as EcoDrive and DirectDrive, along with a design focused on passenger comfort and safety, makes this chairlift not only a significant infrastructural upgrade but also an example of how the industry can evolve in a sustainable and responsible manner. Ski enthusiasts can therefore expect an enhanced travel experience, environmentally friendly and perfectly aligned with future energy challenges.
